Description

How and when do libraries acquire the books on their shelves?:  Librarian, Laura Griffin, will discuss the buying process libraries go through such as how the books are selected, purchased, and ultimately displayed in the library. She will also discuss how certain books can tie in with school curriculum and children’s story times.  Also, where are the gaps in children’s literature today? She will talk about stories that teachers and librarians would like to see in today’s children’s book market. The Upper Arlington library also began lending out e-readers to its patrons and Laura will talk about how e-publishing and internet ties have affected the traditional library book lending.

Laura Griffin graduated from the Indiana University in library science. She’s been a librarian for twenty-two years. Twenty of those years were as the children’s section manager at the Lane Branch library. For the last two and half years, she has been in charge of central ordering for all three branches of the Upper Arlington library system. This includes supervising, weeding and updating the book selection.
